Volunteers Week is an opportunity to celebrate the work of volunteers across the country.

 

This year it’s especially important to take a moment to recognise and thank the millions of volunteers who have played an essential role in supporting people during the pandemic.

 

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to the 87,000 volunteers who are part of our Simply Connect volunteering community for everything you have done.

 

 

We also want to thank and recognise the dedication and hard work of Volunteer Centres, who work tirelessly to co-ordinate, manage and support volunteers in local communities across the country.

Volunteers provide 10,000 hours of support to vaccination hubs across Nottinghamshire

 

This fantastic case study from one of our long-standing customers, Volunteer Centre Newark & Sherwood explains how the team quickly recruited and co-ordinated 1,200 volunteers to support local vaccination sites – stacking up a huge 10,000 hours!

 

“For far too long volunteers have been the unsung heroes, beavering away in the background and in many cases providing the backbone that supports many areas of society, from washing the local football club kits to the RNLI and more.

 

Time and time again over the last year, hundreds of volunteers stepped forward to support their local communities up and down the country; this was the picture across Nottinghamshire as we put out a call for volunteers to support the roll-out of the vaccination programme.

 

With our colleagues from Mansfield CVS, we set up a project to recruit, train and manage volunteers across 7 mass vaccination sites in Nottinghamshire. Within days volunteers were supporting sites as marshalls, car park attendants and runners.

 

Over 1,200 volunteers have registered to support the roll-out, providing a huge 10,000 hours of volunteering per month of support.  This helped to free up more NHS staff, and has contributed to the overall speeding up of the national roll out.

 

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, young and old supporting each other and the local community where the sites are based.  They provide a warm welcome from ‘meet and greet’ to ‘check out’.

One volunteer says:

“I am loving my role as a volunteer, it’s the most rewarding thing I’ve done. The work being done by our NHS is inspiring. I am in awe!”

 

We feel very privileged to work with volunteers and to be able to raise awareness of the huge difference they make.  The pandemic has shone a very bright light on what they do and as we approach National Volunteers Week, it gives us all the opportunity to reflect and showcase the fantastic work they have done over the last year.
